Australia is set for its first recession in 29 years, but what are the potential long-term effects of COVID-19 on the way we work?

Australia has weathered the first wave of this pandemic, but it has come at a big economic cost, with much of the impact as yet to be fully realised.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that our economy shrank by 0.3 per cent in the first three months of this year; while the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has warned that Australia’s unemployment rate would hit 7.4 per cent this year and 7.6 per cent next year.

Meanwhile, as restrictions ease, many Australians are looking at the prospect of returning to work.

The fifth episode of this six-part web series explores how a return to the workplace might be managed.

Who will go back to the office and when? How does Australia recover from its first recession in 29 years? Who are the winners (and losers) from the work-at-home experience? And just what does the manager of today need to do to adapt to the needs of tomorrow?
